Can we update the contact info boxes in profiles

My apologies, critical failure of humor by exaggeration. 

That said, I do think most people underestimate the consequences of the terms of service for most platforms. This isn't the place for that dsicussion, however.

The thing about TikTok (which I don’t have,so take this with a grain of salt), is that I believe it is a content creation platform, not really a social media platform like, say, Facebook. This may stray into politics, but I also don’t trust the behind-the-scenes of TikTok. As for the “saying to a new generation they don't matter” point, which is valid, I still think that it is a slightly exaggerated statement to make about something as simple as not including a link to a profile.

I personally like the idea of having a couple spots where people can put whatever they’re on in, be it Discord, phone number, or TikTok.

These are my thoughts, I hope they were somewhat helpful in any way.

I think at least 50% of Gen Z could care less about TikTok, and I say that as one of them. 

My other main thing against TikTok is its like putting a YouTube field. And I don't see anyone wanting that? TikTok is a content creation platform, not a messaging or social media platform. Website almost shouldn't be on there (I still think it should, but it almost shouldn't), and TikTok is less than a website.

TikTok is more of content creation than social media. But if we want to include that kind of thing (add Youtube, Twitch, etc.) then add it as well.

I think this is not good logic; people don't use them because the boxes aren't relevant. This is why you do not see them used much. It is possible things have changed culturally, but certainly a decade ago, they were used, and I have no doubt they would with more relevant items.

See, I generally fight against TikTok because the baggage it brings, the whole thing about data collection. Despite it being a topic not pertinent to the Shard. Then again, it should be included because some people would be on there and might want people to see their videos, similarly to the argument for why websites should be on here or why people show others their writing on this platform. 

For most things, it would be good to include them. Youtube can be included, but I don't know if anyone except for a small percentage of people will use it. On the other hand, that small percentage will be grateful for it. And if more people use it as it is supposed to because they see a better option for it, we'll see an increase of the intended usage. 

Either way, it can't hurt to include TikTok, or Youtube, or anything else for that matter. If you don't want to see it or be a part of data collecting, then don't go to it. Yes, I know, sometimes you can't, but is this one of those times? No, I don't think it is. This is a thing you really only see if you scroll down on someone's profile for a little. And, then, it's only a link. It will only be harmful to you if you click on it, at least to my understanding. 

My argument, in this case, is that we include anything that at least some people on the Shard are a part of so we can continue to foster the theme of inclusion of people who participate in all sorts of things (there are exceptions to this, I know, but in this case this argument works, wouldn't you agree?) in several shapes and forms. With these different platforms included in the contact boxes, we can see links to cool videos that people have done, contact people through other platforms, mess around with some fun things that people have done, and possibly more. What's not to like about that along with what I've previously stated in this post?

Can they even be changed? do you think that people will realize it? I think not many people would use it even if it was implemented, since it is basically giving away infomation online, which isn't really encouraged. Even if people use it, it doesn't directly benefit them.

So the entire purpose of this topic is indeed changing them. They can be changed. Yes, uptake will take a while, but of course that's the case. There are thousands of accounts here.

Perhaps many wouldn't, but I feel like a lot of people would share Discord at the least, as a ton of the fandom is on Discord. You are entitled to your opinion, and people can of course differ, but for those who want it, it seems nice. Seems pretty simple. I just disagree with your premise that because some people want to be private, that no one who wants to share those details should be able. That logic is not sound. Don't let bots warp your thoughts too much.

Would they be added as additional boxes or replace existing boxes (I assume replacing them takes longer)?

We could, quite simply, rename it to the "Social Media and Contact" box. Well, simply in the same context as adding the new boxes for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, etc.

I imagine all you have to do to replace the existing boxes would be to rename them

Yeah I don't think the fields have any special scripts to open up MSN Messenger to open up the client to add people, its just a text field.

Oh I want to thank the staff for following my suggestion and making more appropriate socials!

If I can make a recommendation, I think a goodreads is a MUST! And maybe Storygraph or similar competitor. I don't use storygraph but I think Brandon would appreciate an Amazon-alternative.
