Miyako could see light a few feet away. The edge of the mist. The Queen stood there, hands outstretched, channeling power into the cloud that enveloped the throne room.

With a cry, she let it go- and the room filled with lightning.

Ok, questions: is the lightning hitting the guards? Is there less lightning around the Queen? Is it a static (ha!) effect or instantaneous? Does it have an effect on the mist? Roughly how much damage will it do to Miyako?

Kealie squeaked. “Quest? Quest!”

Quest glanced around at the hallway and when he turned back, the door was closed, with Kealie inside. Panicked, Quest slammed against the door but to no avail. The doorknob was stuck.

"Kealie! Kealie you in there?" Quest screamed. He thought he heard Kealie calling his name back, but it was hard to tell.

"Oh. Oh, ok. Thanks creepy house." Quest slumped against the door, looking out into the dark hallways. The hallways seemed to stretch before him, sinister red fire illuminating doors upon doors of secrets. The shadows seemed to dance at the edge of his visions, holding hidden horrors. Quest could swear he saw something darting back when his head turned.

No, no. Focus. What can you do Quest? You could...burn the door down? No, that probably is a bad idea. Umm...hmm.

Quest sat, back against the doorframe, knees clutched to his chest. "Um, Kealie? Are you ok in there?"

The lightning is hitting the guards, as well as both Yerik and Hyron. There is no lightning around the Queen- she's outside of the mist. It lasts for about second. The lightning does burn away some of the mist, making it slightly easier to see.

The lightning doesn't do direct damage so much as cause 1) pain and 2) involuntary muscle contractions. It does cause some slight burns.

Yerik screamed as the lightning coursed through him, thrashing involuntarily and falling to the ground. He lay there, sobbing, as the energy faded from the now-clearer air. His muscles twitched and spasmed as he lay on the ground.

Hyron shouted, his limbs locking up. They had never felt such excruciating pain before. It faded away, and they fell to their knees, breathing through their teeth. They looked up, noting the mist was slightly less opaque now.

Hyron groaned, standing. They chugged down a quick gulp of water, and prepared to continue fighting.

Yerik took a deep breath and stood up. The pain from the lightning had faded to a dull ache, and his limbs had mostly stopped twitching, but some part of the attack still lingered. Every move he took seemed to be ever so slightly slower, as if the signals from his brain were taking a fraction of a second longer to reach their destination. It wasn't much, but it was enough to make him feel as though he were moving through molasses.

Nearer to the Queen, the guards lay moaning on the ground. A few seemed to be making feeble attempts to stand up, but none seemed to be having much success.

The secondary effect of the lightning will last for about a minute.

Miyako screamed as lightning coursed through her body. She collapsed to the ground, dropping her sword. The sharp pain subsided, leaving Miyako sprawled out on the floor, hair hanging over her face. She struggled to crawl to her feet, taking in deep breaths. Her thoughts were sluggish, scattered by the lightning.

As Miyako pulled herself up, she laid a hand on her sword. Pulling it closer, Miyako gripped it until her knuckles were white. A sword, something Miyako understood. She didn't need to think to know what to do next.

Miyako lunged forward, wildly swiping towards the Queen with her sword.

A golden rope shot out and wrapped around Miyako's sword, jerking it to the side. From the ceiling dropped the princess, catching herself with several more of her golden strands. A moment later, one shot out towards Miyako's wrist.

A vine shot at the gold, shattering the thread before it dropped to the ground. Hyron lowered their hand, breathing heavily. They struggled to remember what to do, and stood, trying to get a sense of their bearings.

The only thing they could think, the reason they reacted, was to protect their friends. Protect Miyako.

They shook their head, thoughts slowly becoming clearer. They muttered something about needing a sword, then shot another vine at the princess.

@Mr. Misting

The princess flicked a golden thread at the vine, its edge becoming sharp as it sheared through it. Two threads remained in a defensive position in front of her as she shot more ropes to tie Miyako up.

Hyron stared, utterly shocked. Then they became angry. This... princess, dared to mimic the magic that had been gifted to Hyron's forefathers, their ancestors. This type of magic should only be reserved for lush, green, plants. Not cold, heartless, lifeless golden threads.

Hyron sent a barrage of vines at the princess, coming from every direction. Their thoughts became clearer and clearer, their motions more sharp, fluid.

Hyron began to sweat from the exertion. This couldn't last long

The princess responded instantly to the barrage of vines, weaving several of her threads into shields and using a few more to cut down any vines that she could. She moved calmly and rationally, every flick of her threads precise and calculated, remaining defensive in the face of Hyron's assault.

Do the threads come from the princess or do they just form in midair? Like are they still attached to her?

Vance eventually tracked down where the others had gone, bumping into Quest. "Oh hey. Where's Kealie?"

@Mr. Misting

Quest glanced up, relief plain on his face. "Vance! Kealie is, um, locked in that room." Quest scrambled to his feet, pointing at the door he had been sitting at.

Miyako tried to dodge the threads that wrapped around her arm but more kept coming. Miyako's sword flashed as she cut through the golden threads.

Miyako let a thread sneak through her defenses, watching as it wrapped around her arm. With a grin, Miyako yanked on the thread, pulling the Princess towards her.

The tip of the thread unexpectedly separated as Miyako pulled on it.
