Just now, Ranryu said:

"Lerac?" She inspected the body. "Something weird is going on..."

Can't trust my eyes. She closed them, relying on the sound of Lerac's voice instead.

"What is it? Wynn, can you see me?"

The body seemed fully solid and real.

"Yes, I suppose it is."

I'm afraid it is true. The Nolikans saw right through his facade.

In the vision, TAAron fell to the ground, unmoving.

“Why do you Evikians come here so often? To see how real men live?” He laughed, full and loud. “I mean, seriously, it’s like you don’t know how to fight. How are you all even alive?”

Why no response to the second part?

TAAron snorted in derision. "Is your only purpose here to insult me?"

Sorry *facepalm* forgot

“Spirit! Beyond looking down your nose at everyone! I never thought I’d see the day.” He grinned. “Of course not, my good Evander. I’m here to distract you until Aaya comes back to escort you to your room.”

No, it’s a lie, and you’re a liar, and I will kill you. She whirled into a wind chime, up onto the palace roof, then back into herself to gaze over the landscape toward Nolikar. He promised. He’s going to come back. I… I don’t believe you.

"Well, you could stand to be more polite."

---

I think you do. I think you know, deep down. He's gone, halcyon.

The soldier turned over TAAron's body and stabbed him in the chest. His eyes were open, but glazed and unseeing.

2 minutes ago, Ranryu said:

"No, I can't." Her eyes were still shut. "There's some sort of illusion- try touching me."

The voice went silent, leaving only her and the still body.

“You’re funny,” the noble laughed. “I like you better than the other delegates.”

Aaya poked her head in. “It’s ready.”

”We’ll have to talk some more later,” he told TAAron. “You are utterly fascinating.”

Haly squinched her eyes shut as if to keep out the image and grabbed a spire to steady herself. “No, it’s not true. Something would have happened. The sky would have fallen, or turned red. Or I would have died too.”

Just now, Ranryu said:

"Lerac? Lerac?" She flailed her arms wildly, keeping her eyes closed.

There was a sense, like a presence. But her arms touched nothing, and the voice no longer spoke.

That might not be a good thing.

TAAron followed Aaya.

Did that happen the first time? Why would it happen now?

Something was very, very wrong. Wynn flailed out her Shadows, scouring every inch of the space around her.

“Here you are,” she said in her accented voice, opening a heavy wooden door.

The room was all stone. There was a colorful rug on the floor, mostly red, black, and yellow. The bed had no canopy, and there was a window on the wall—no glass, just a window. The closet was dark wood, like the bed, and was next to the window and a plain writing fest. There wasn’t much ornamentation anywhere.

”I hope you will be comfortable,” she muttered, though she didn’t really look it.

“Because he promised.” She sunk to the roof, still holding the spire. The shingles slanted away from her in two different directions, forming a steep peak.

Malum. Go away.

"How plain."

Silly girl. You've convinced yourself that your affection for the boy would make him invincible, that just because he said he'd be careful he'd somehow be okay. You've been lying to yourself.

“We prefer to be simplistic,” she replied. “Now, if that’s all.”

“No, he promised,” she insisted, but her conviction was fizzling out. “Something would’ve happened.”

I am so excited to introduce a character who could clear this up

Also congrats on your return!

"Yes, yes, you may go."

He's dead. He's dead and you know it. You can't change it by refusing to accept it. The promise was empty, made to comfort you.

“I-ya,” she muttered, then left.

“Please go away,” she begged, on the verge of tears. “I can’t deal with this right now.”

TAAron breathed out in relief. That was hard to keep up.

How sad. Now there is no Lerac to revive him. He's gone forever. And you didn't even say 'I love you' back.

We can skip to when the monarchs are finished.

“I… but I do! He knows I love him. He… I wanted to say it first, and now…” she clutched the spire closer and she’d silent tears.

Got it. You can start that if you want.

Perhaps he did know. And yet... perhaps he went to his death doubtful. What a shame.

The vision had been continuing, the soldier carrying the dead form into what appeared to be a furnace room.

And there he goes.

Aaya knocked on the door an hour later. “They’re unoccupied.”

“He knew, I’m sure he knew. He had to know.” She jumped to her feet, wiping tears out of her eyes, but they were swiftly replaced. “Leave me alone! Go away! Don’t you have better things to do than this?”

TAAron leaped to his feet, maybe a bit too fast. "Lovely. Take me to them."

I can do more than one thing at once, child. Anyway, it always pleases me to muse about the sad failings of humans. Lives so fragile... they can be taken away in an instant. Think of all the wonderful things that might have happened between you too! When he got back, you could have told him how you felt, and then you both would have been happy. Instead, all you have is memories. Ask yourself, is that enough?

She did not notice, but led him down a hallway to a large conferenceish room. The king and queen were both there. (He doesn’t have to notice yet, but she’s wearing a copper chain with a little wooden pendant at the end.)

“Good afternoon,” the king said pleasantly. “Come sit down.”

She shook her head hard. “Go away. Just go away.” Rylla pushed up against her ribs.

I'll say he does notice, because he's looking for it specifically.

His eyes widened momentarily at seeing the pendant, but he forced himself to control his expression. "Gladly." He took a seat.

In the vision, the soldier hauled TAAron into the roaring fire of an incinerator. The vision focused on his body as it was consumed by flames.

I know Death, you know. I could have his soul destroyed, his very essence erased. The he would truly be gone. What a delight! I'll speak to him now, I think.

10-20 minutes, huh?
