She threw something at him, hard, then at Lerac, then Mitis. “DO SOMETHING,” she screamed. “DO SOMETHING!”

Lerac glared at her. "Haly, I know you're panicked, but throwing things helps no one. TAAron, are you holding the knife in?"

TAAron shook his head slightly.

"Great. So someone or something else. Malum, maybe?"

Mitis pulled a slim silver antenna out of her bag and held it up, searching for signals. She winced. “Definitely.”

I’m assuming he’s at least kind of there

Yes.

"Okay, you're going to have to figure out a way to get him out. I'm about a third of the way through my reserves."

She probably could push his soul away with Rylla’s help, which would leave Haly depleted too. But if you don’t want that, that’s fine,

Haly clung, sobbing, to Mitis, who attempted to push her away and failed

Well, it's not a soul. It's a physical force allowed for by creating a limited physical presence with his weird metal shard things. Someone would have to cut off his physical connection to the room. Alternatively, getting him far away fast enough would work, although that solution is difficult and not as likely for them to figure out.

There is another solution that I have in mind if that doesn't work.

"Haly, do you want to say goodbye now?" TAAron asked through tears.

“No! It’s not goodbye. It’s not.” Face tear-streaked, she became a wind chime. “See you soon.” Then she flew up through the ceiling.

'See you soon?' Denial? That's what you want to be the last thing you said to him?

Lerac turned to Mitis. "Any ideas?"

It’s not denial.

Mitis shook her head, but her focus was on the ceiling. “She was serious.”

How so? There's a knife in his chest, and it won't be coming out.

"What do you mean, 'serious?'" Lerac grunted, tugging on the knife again. "And you're sure you can't do anything about this?"

I know that. She coalesced on top of the high bookshelf in her room.

”If I could connect to his soul… I found his signal. I could try to do something, distract him, use up his energy. It would take a lot more juice than I have, though. And Haly isn’t going to be alive forever.”

So he's going to die. Shy do you say 'see you soon?'

"Well, try that. I'm halfway through now. And I still don't get what you mean about Haly."

Mitis sighed, exasperated. “When she said she’d jump off a cliff. She meant it.”

Because I will.

Oh, I get it. You'll kill yourself to be with him. That won't work, you know. You don't just get to see who you want to see once you're dead.

"Right. Let's try to avoid that, shall we? Do... the thing you were saying."

Oh well then. It’s better than being alive without him.

Rylla swirled up next to Haly, who dropped unconscious, but didn’t fall off the bookshelf.

“Kay.” With a deep breath, Mitis closed her eyes and traced the signal back to its source, siphoning away soul energy. Slowly, then faster.

Oh, good! I'll have gotten two in one.

The soul seemed to rush away as fast as she pulled it.

"Nothing's happening."

Wynn approached the throne and bowed, waiting for the goddess to acknowledge her. After a minute or so, a tendril of ice-cold fire wrapped around her and lifted her into the air.

"I know what you seek, little one. Are you willing to pay the price?"

Wynn nodded. "Yes. " She replied simply.

"Very well. It has been a great long while since once such as yourself presented yourself to me. As a sign that your promise is good, give me the conduit of your power."

Wynn reluctantly pulled off her duel disk and held it up in offering. The goddess grabbed it with another tendril of flame, disintegrating all of it in moments.

"The deal is sure. Do you understand the terms?"

She bowed her head as the goddess set her back down. "Yes. I am willing."

"Very well, little one. Go and use your new power reserve to punish this unruly god. But do not forget the price..."

In a blur of Shadows and blue-white flames, Wynn found herself whisked back to the center of the labyrinth. She sighed. It's gonna be a long trip back to the others...

Though Haly was unconscious, she could still hear him. Why do you care so much?

She frowned. “We could… I mean… never mind. No ideas.”

She followed his soul and attempted to see it, understand it.

You know I want to kill you all. You're making it easy for me!

---

It was pure malice.

"Okay. I've got one more idea, but we need Haly."

But why? Why do you want to kill us all?

“She’s probably dead by—“ Mitis pulled a soul signal out of her pocket. “Nope, just unconscious. In her room, up high.”

It is my purpose.

"Get her, then. We need TAAron's help to get this knife out, and she might be able to convince him."

Your entire purpose is to kill a bunch of teenagers? What are you, a class five?

Mitis hurried upstairs, then groaned when she saw Haly unconscious on top of a very high bookshelf. She climbed up and brought Haly down and to Lerac. “Here she is. l can try to wake her.”

You first, everyone else later.

"Do it!"

"Alright, Haly. We're going to need you to convince TAAron not to die."

“If you die,” she hissed to him, fire in her eyes, “the rest of us will follow. One by one. Me, Lerac, Wynn, even Mitis. And then? Our families. Cjehu, Sykel, Jaera, Tiernan, Tors, Lerac’s family. If you die, he gets what he wants. If you die, TAAron, Malum wins. Don’t let that happen. Don’t let him win, because if he wins now, he will just keep winning. Until there’s nothing left but him.” She paused. “Don’t let me down like that.”
