Weaver of Lies he/him
Has anyone ever wondered if Amaranta’s potions were invested? I have little evidence, but she is said to be unparalleled in skill and it could make sense. Please tell me what you think. Underwater_Worldhopper he/him
On Sel, there is some evidence that the potions Hrathen uses to turn himself and Sarene into Reod Elantrian-look-alikes were Invested, and that's theorized to be the Hrovell Inveted Art, so if you really want to stretch it, you could say that Amaranta might have been a Selish Worldhopper who figured out a way to get her hands on Unkeyed Dor or something. But most likely she was just a really skilled herbalist. Edited June 24, 2023 by Underwater_Worldhopper

She's an herbalist, and probably just a typical one, as the "genius" comment comes from Straff before he learns that she just addicted him to <implied Poppy - or Scadrial's version> so he thinks she's a "genius" because he feels better every time she makes a "potion" for him. Since we see her trying to cling to her "concubine" status, it's unlikely she's a worldhopper. 3 hours ago, Underwater_Worldhopper said: On Sel, there is some evidence that the potions Hrathen uses to turn himself and Sarene into Reod Elantrian-look-alikes were Invested, and that's theorized to be the Svordish Hrovell Invested Art, so if you really want to stretch it, you could say that Amaranta might have been a Selish Worldhopper who figured out a way to get her hands on Unkeyed Dor or something. Forton was from Hrovell, not Svorden (which is the location of the university where Lukel met his wife) Spoiler WoB: Quote Francis Ocoma In Elantris, are Forton's "potions" magical, or is he using natural substances? Brandon Sanderson They are invested. (Magical.) Elantris Ch 18: Quote Hrathen smiled. Forton was an unparalleled genius, which was why Hrathen suffered his eccentricities. The man not only kept a seon, but was a devout follower of the Mysteries—a degenerate form of the Jesker religion common in rural areas. Though Hrovell was officially a Derethi nation, most of it was a primitive, sparsely populated countryside which was difficult to supervise. Many of the peasants attended their Derethi services with devotion, then took part in their midnight Mystery ceremonies with equal devotion.
