Looking for a certain passage

I am looking for a specific passage and the chapter it is in for something in Lost Metal. 

It was the line about the "red haired people that seemed confused" mentioned briefly in the book. I forgot what the exact passage was, and what chapter it was in. Can somebody with a digital copy help me find it?

Looks like it's probably from Epilogue 6 (MeLaan):

MeLaan turned. There was land ahead. And lights that seemed too alive for the cold fire of this strange place. People crowded around, hundreds of them, with strange outfits, many with odd red hair. Lost.

This was her task. To save those people.

That's the only passage I found that mentions red hair

Thanks, I was looking as I thought I remembered them being (implied to be) Unkalaki on Scadrial. But I guess they can still be Unkalaki, it would make sense they would be struggling to find another planet much more than the Iriali.

They're definitely not on Roshar or Scadrial:

I assumed that part was something inbetween worlds, rather than the Subastral of a world. And the way it talked about them made it feel as if they were supposed to be familiar and not just some random strange people, in my own opinion.

They're definitely not random, they're  99% Horneaters. And that's not how space in between worlds looks like, we saw it in SH, Kelsier was there. This has to be a new Subastral:

So like as far as distance traveled in Shadesmar. So when Kelsier is in Shadesmar, he meets the Ire, who are presumably Elantrians. How far did he travel? Is that still within Scadrial's realm of the Cognitive Realm?

Yeah, that's within-- By the time he meets them he has slipped right to the edge of the Cognitive Realm on Scadrial and into, kind of, the darkness between planets.

He's close enough that he can get there. But he's kind of suffused with Scadrian Investiture then, to a point that it would be harder--you saw in there--for him to get further. I would say that he's like... He has entered space between planets, but he's not out of the solar system.

Yeah, yep. That's what I'd say if I had to actually point him in that <a map>. It gets really fuzzy though, because it wouldn't be too much longer before he enters another solar system. Like, he would pass lightyears in steps as he starts getting further, if that makes any sense.

It's not-- there's not much time dilation. What you've got going on is... Things that people aren't around to think about, things without minds or any sort of life, don't manifest on Shadesmar very much at all. And so the space between planets gets really small, unless there's another planet out there with thinking beings or at least some sort of life on it. Like even lower lifeforms, you'll get something manifesting on Shadesmar. But yeah

Okay. So the Cognitive Realm, in Shadesmar... It's kind of the... Any kind of sentient or cognitive life-- that's what is building Shadesmar? So like anything where there's blackness... is like... condensed or--

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, yes. Particularly if no one's thinking about it. If people are thinking about it - like, for instance, an island in the ocean that was scoured of all life and even bacteria would still manifest in Shadesmar on that planet because people are aware of it and things like this. But one on the other side of the planet, that no one ever knew about it, probably wouldn't.

So that same island, if people just stopped thinking about it or like stopped being aware of its presence, would it...

It could slowly vanish, yes. And so-- But that's more of a thought experiment. You're never gonna have a planet that that happens to, you know cause-- but thought experiment wise, yes, that would eventually kind of get consumed by Shadesmar and vanish. The same thing would happen to a planet that you strip the atmosphere from--all the bacteria and life dies on it--you know, slowly going to vanish. But a moon will still manifest because people are thinking about it. It'll just not-- it won't-- it'll be hokey, it'll be weird--the moon will be. Like you might find a little patch that represents the moon. Something like that.

You're not gonna find the full landscape of the moon until people start visiting it. And it's gonna grow on Shadesmar.

So, most of the magics are not region-dependent, because the Spiritual Realm-- in the Spiritual Realm space doesn’t exist.  All things are the same distance from one another.

He’s in the Cognitive Realm.

No, he meets some people who are traveling but Cognitive Realm is location dependent.  He is on the Cognitive Realm on Scadrial and the people he runs into there-- until he kind of travels off into space, which is where he finds the fortress.

So even though he’s tied to Scadrial could he go to the Cognitive Realm of other worlds?

He would have trouble getting to another planet, being a Cognitive shadow like he was.

Yeah, I know, I was just assuming that either

1. The space between systems is different, as Kelsier was still in the Scadrian System. 
2. It could be that the area between planets can actually differ depending on what they are closest to

Another passage I am looking for. Way of Kings passages on Alethkar being relatively cold, I remember it being described as a pretty cold nation, not as cold as the Frostlands, but still cold. I need it for some citations. Thank you for any help.

How certain are you on your recollection? These are the closest relevant passages I can find:

WoK does not mention the Frostlands (at least not in the searchable text).

The only passage that has "cold" and Alethkar" in the same paragraph is (Ch 26):

Their homeland was stressed nearly to breaking, the war was stalled, and suddenly he found himself captivated by the very ideals and myths that had led to his brother’s downfall. This was a time the Alethi needed the Blackthorn, not an old, tired soldier who fancied himself a philosopher.

In WoR there is a passage comparing climate to the Frostlands, but it is in reference to Thaylenah, not Alethkar (Ch 1):

She didn’t know where that was, but from the jumble of consonants squished together, she assumed it would be on the Thaylen side. Most cities were, this far south. Though Thaylenah was nearly as frigid as the Frostlands, people seemed to enjoy living there.

Of course, Thaylens were all a little off.

There is a passage in Oathbringer (Flashbacks) where Evi says that Alethkar is cold (because she's from the much warmer Rira - Ch 66):

“It’s not that bad,” Dalinar said. “You should visit the Frostlands in a season of winter.”

There's also a passage in Oathbringer where Moash complains that Alethkar is too hot compared to the Frostlands (Ch 48):

Moash fell into the sturdy rhythm of the work. It wasn’t long until he was sweating. He’d grown accustomed to the colder weather in the east, near the Frostlands. It was strange to be in a place where the sun felt hot on his skin, and now the weather here was turning toward summer.

For now, it was too cold for plants to enjoy the respite; rockbuds spent winter weeks curled up inside their shells. Most creatures hibernated, waiting for warmth to return. Fortunately, seasons generally lasted only a few weeks. Unpredictability. That was the way of the world. Only after death was there stability. So the ardents taught, at least.
