“I…I’m glad you do. I love you, even if you aren’t the man you used to be. You are still great.” Maybe Tayen is really coming back.

 He was sound asleep.

She fell back asleep, not dreaming.

"Thank you."

The shade seemed to shift faster.

“Something is certainly happening,” Helda commented.

Tayen cried out in pain, contorting in her arms.

Helda held him, unsure of what to do. This…was this good?

Yeah, that could work. What would Daniel do? He could semi-apprentice to her as an assistant or something?

“You can do this Tayen. I know you can. You’re strong, stronger than anyone I know.”

Night night!

He began to scream, convulsing. The shade swirled faster, and seemed to eat at his form.

Helda watched, feeling his pain as if it were her own, but unable to do anything.

It seemed like instead of the shade merging with his soul, his soul was getting eating away by the shade, and joining it. Hurts...

She moved her soul between the two, separating them.

His convulsions slowed, and he began to cry. "I'm sorry... I couldn't..."

It isn’t your fault. I don’t know what happened. She tried to touch the shade’s soul, to understand it.

It reminded her of the time Tayen had before nearly slipped into becoming a shade. It was still consumed with the pain that had originally dissolved the former soul.

She reached out to it. Tayen?

Yep.

Daniel woke up, rising slowly. “Sorry.”

Tayen! I know you. I know that you can break from this pain, even for just a moment. Please, let me know you’re there.

“For being asleep when you’re awake.”

"What's wrong with that? You needed sleep. Besides, you look so sweet when you are sleeping..." Rex smiled at him and blushed.
