“She’s…she’s…she’s my…girlfriend?” Daniel slowly lowered Rex to the ground, then turned aside and began to vomit.

"Oh..." Rex was silent, watching him. She waited till he was finished, handed him a rag, and walked several feet away.

"I'm strong enough." She picked up her pace a little, ignoring the pounding in her head.

“No, you aren’t, you…” Why was he arguing? What was she to him?

He wasn’t sure. But he knew he had to go with her or something awful would happen to her. “I’m coming with you.”

"Yes. I. Am." She ran.

He ran after her. “Why? Why would you do this to me?”

What was he asking? Why that? She wasn’t doing anything to him… or was she? He didn’t need her, right? It was the other way around, it had to be.

They ran past a scene crowded with officials and passers by. It was where the two identical bodies of the strange man lay dead on the street.

Rex froze, skidding to a stop, staring wide eyed and lower lip trembling as all the memorys came flooding back. She huddled on the street, sobbing.

Daniel caught up with her. “What’s…” then he saw the bodies. He sat next her. He knew he shouldn’t have, but he wrapped his arms around her, trying to comfort her.

Eddie's soul shivered, but accepted the memories. It...it understood. It understood that pain could bring progress. But it saw the value of control. The value of being able to make completely sure that the pain would go away, that there was more joy than hurt. She showed him the world she'd created. The one where all people could heal. The one where love was sure. The one where no one was alone.

And as she did, those memories grew stronger in her mind, forcing away the memories of before.

Eddie...those things all happen in the real world. People heal. People can have sure love. People can overcome loneliness.

Would you really force these people into a world where their healing is a lie? Their love is a lie? Their connections are lies?

Eddie, you've made them more alone.

She shook, starting to cry more (somehow). “You… you promise?”

"Yes. I swear it." He held her tightly.
