Tayen didn't end up getting much that qualified as rest, but when the sun rose ye got up and checked in on Helda.

She sat up when he checked on her, already awake.

"... How'd you sleep?" He looked exhausted, and his hand was a mess of scabbing and dried blood.

“Come in here and rest! I knew I shouldn’t have let you sleep out there,” she shrieked.

"Fine. Alright." He entered the cramped shack. "What will you do?"

“I’ll wait, I’ll watch over you and make sure you’re able to get the rest you need.”

Alone in the shack, Tayen held the dagger he had acquired from the assailant that past night. I'm an impostor. A useless fake. There's nothing to me, I'm empty.

Helda waited outside, unaware of his thoughts.

Tayen held the dagger to his chest, staring at it. She doesn't really care about me. She just cares about her memory. Tayen is gone. Why have I appeared now? This body should have died with him.

Helda peeked in, seeing if he was really resting. She screamed when she saw what he was doing. “Please, don’t! I don’t know why you’re doing this but it isn’t worth it. Even if you could die it wouldn’t be worth it, but you’ll come back and be even more broken than before. Don’t do it.”

He dropped the dagger, and buried his face in his hands, beginning to sob.

Hesitantly, she crawled next to him. She was about to embrace him when she realized that could do more harm than help.

"Why don't you hate me? I replaced someone you loved."

“Well, firstly, he wouldn’t want me to hate you for it. Second, it wasn’t your choice, and third, you deserve a chance to live, everyone does. I shouldn’t hate you because of something you had no control over.”
