Pic falls sideways as the support/pillow named Aventine move out from under him.
“What crow?” He grunts from the ground.

“The one we sent with the message. It looks like it has a response.”

Pic sat up and ran his hands though his hair to wake himself up. “Is the response good?” He hums, finishing out the loop and dismissing it.

“Well, let’s find out.”

Calano read the missive, and his brow furrowed.

A dead world… And the sealing thereof… But part of the missive was unclear.

He wrote back swiftly:

This is the Creator. Not many know the ancient methods of contacting me, but I shouldn’t be surprised that those who did came from the Clinic. I’m surprised it’s still up and running, after I’ve been gone so long. It’s comforting to know it’s in good hands.

Part of your missive was… unclear. Your friend with the sigil… would he be sealed on the dead world? Or would you travel there, remove his sigil, wait for the cult to arrive, and then seal them there? Sealing a dead world is a delicate process, and not something that can be rushed. I need more information, and a better plan.

This crow will remember how to get to me, you won’t have to enchant it again for your response to reach me.

He launched the crow back into the sky, where it quickly vanished from view.

He shouldn’t have been surprised that people’s stories had continued at the Clinic. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise to know it was still thriving. He looked towards his girls.

He had… a lot to lose. Even more now than before he became a God. He would try his best to only play adviser and not front line warrior with this particular interaction.

He had his girls to look after, after all. And a wife to love. And a family to build up.

Thank you for being willing to help. Our plan was to raid the cult’s base of operations first. According to my friend, there may be innocents involved. We’re bringing a “human lie detector” to figure out whether to trap them or not.

We didn’t think about when the sigil would be removed. I’m guessing either on the dead world, or after we return from it.

She sealed the missive and sent the crow on its way.

At the front desk, Tal was reading...reading...always reading...but the voice in his mind was growing louder.

I am hungry...

You are dead.

I will break them...

I will protect them!

You will break them for me.

I am not your tool.

Aren't you?

Slowly, Tal stood up and walked to the medical wing. They could...this could be sorted out. And if it couldn't...then perhaps it was time to do what he hadn't had the strength to do all those years ago. Before it was too late.

Is anyone in the med wing? :)

Pic watched the crow fly away, then sat up, scooted close to Aventine, and pecked her in the cheek.

“How long were we out for?” He asks with a slight smile on his lips.

He frowned, rubbing his head. The closer you get, the easier it is to hurt them. And oh, we will hurt them…won’t we?  “I’m not entirely sure.” Get out of my head!

Pic nodded at Tal, and simply let him speak, humming along to his words.

“I…” he sighed softly. “Have I ever told you why I work here?”

I’m imagining time wise, they are  adorable for a few minutes, and then Tal walks in

Probably. Would she be facing toward him in the hug or away?

It would be easier to destroy them than to befriend them…

It’s been so long since I’ve tried to tell my story…

I await you…I await my feast.

“My world has…a strange sort of magic. It’s almost like a parasite. When it chooses a…victim, so to speak, they get tremendous power…and they share its urge for destruction. And, well, I’ve had magic since I was young. When I found out about the Clinic, it was the first time I saw an escape. And here…I can’t use the magic. And it can’t use me. But its voice is in my head again…I don’t know how, but it’s found a way to get in.”
