He picks up two fist-sized rocks, looking around towards the building. Too many people in there. Too dangerous. He turns away, walking further north very slowly through the thick jungle, walking even slower to be careful not to get too close to any plants that seem dangerous. (Any plants that are colorful or spiky.)

All plants seem vaguely dangerous if he thinks about it hard enough.

The Gambler deals both of them a hand of lacquered cards, which appear to be of Herdazian make. "Breakneck. A simple game, really." He says.

Jaksyn picks up his cards. Two chulls, two skyeels, an axehound, and a greatshell.

“Never seen it played with cards… I suppose the rules are the same.”

His palmed cards are a chull and a greatshell. He moves the greatshell into his hand with surprising dexterity. No one ever thinks a one handed guy will cheat em. He tosses the axehound and draws.

Maths. The hands are supposed to be 6 cards, according to my head canon I just made up.

He could feel large drops of sweat form on his forehead and roll down the side of his head. His legs ached from walking for so long through the dense forest. He finally realized that it was very unlikely that he would find any supplies out here so he decided to take a break and sit down in a patch of sand. wait... sand? A thought materializes in Quelkin's head as he goes down on one knee and runs his hand through the sand. He was still new to this but he should be able to control just a little one. He reaches out with both hands and pushes with most of his remaining strength, hoping that this sand was invested, hoping that he could create a weapon so that if the time came he could defend himself.

He sees condensed water dripping down leaves, and there are plenty of fruits growing. It's impossible to tell which might be poisonous, however.

"Hmm." Konrad thinks. "What d'ya reckon, Ede? Think those are poisonous?"

The chances of them containing poison is very high.

"I suppose so. But still." Konrad pulled some fruit off of a tree. "Might not be." He didn't eat it yet, however. Just tucked it away for later. Konrad also picks up a thick stick he finds nearby and heads deeper into the jungle.

Yeah, normally it'd be played with like 6 dice I think? Not exactly sure.

"Eh. I like cards." The Gambler says. He takes a swig from his bottle as he moves a few cards around, getting rid of a couple and drawing.

Its been so long since I've played any gambling game of any sort, I'm kinda just making this up as I go along 😂

Unfortunately, it’s regular sand.

Sorryyyy…this is important though.

Quelkin collapses from exhaustion. He lays there for some time catching his breath and regaining some strength. What he would have given for a little pewter. Since he had given up on finding supplies he decides to gain a high vantage to see if their were any prominent landmarks or hills he could go to to have high ground. He crawls over to the nearest tree and slowly pulls himself to the top.

Konrad spins around, swinging his stick as he turns.

The foliage is too dense to make anything out.

He can see jungle in every direction, nearly as far as the eye can see. The only clearing is in the center, around the casino. He sees the signs of large animals in several directions. In one case he can even see a shelled creature that’s taller than some trees.

Konrad mutters something about "storming trees" and turns back, continuing to head the way he was before. "Keep an eye out for me, okay Ede?"

Yes, Konrad.

Same here. 😬See my edited post for a little more clarity

After drawing, Jaksyn’s hand now consisted of 2 chulls, 2 skyeels, and 2 greatshells, with a hidden chull and greatshell. He switched to a Queen, with pocket skyeels.
“In Vorinism, this is where they’d place bets. Up to raise the stakes?”

The Gambler didn't even glance at his own hand. There was something in his eyes that made Jaksyn think maybe The Gambler knew he had cheated. "This round? No, this is your practice. Next round, then we can place some real bets."

Jaksyn kept two greatshells, showing a hand of three chulls, two skyeels, and a greatshell. He lapped the extra greatshells. A Butcher.

“Do you know what this hand means?”

Jaksyn paused, but only for drama, not to let him speak.
“It means that what happens next is up to you. So you can stop drinking, look me in the eyes, cut the act, and make a deal, or I’ll find another way to win this rusting game.”

The Gambler just smiled. "I like you." He said. He laid down his hand, three axehounds and three skyeels, a Queen. "We can't very well make a deal with me already knowing your cards, can we?"

"Now, you want food and metalminds" He pulls out a few chips. Some have the chromium feruchemical symbol, others  have a simple drawing of general foodstuffs. "Each chip is ten minutes of feruchemical charge or a meals worth of food, respectively." He explained. "You win, you get whatever you chose for me to put in. If I win, it's ten minutes of poor fortune for each chip I put in. Deal?"

If that made any sense

It's hard for me to make bets with everyone having nothing.

“I have a… complicated relationship with my storing and tapping. Suffice it to say, I don’t know how well your chips will work for me. How about this: If I win, I get a chromium metalmind and a 2 vials of shavings, and if you win, I’ll stay here and work for you to… stack the odds in your favor and watch for cheaters.” Jaksyn grins slyly.

"You win, you get a chromium metalminds and 3 vials of shavings. If I win, you get 1 vial of shavings and I hunt you down until I kill you or The Change happens." The Gambler says. "Final offer." He begins dealing out hands again.

What is the Change? Do we (the players or the tributes) know?

“Deal. And no cheating this time. For either of us.”

How do you want to do this? Pure luck? Random generator?

Astra looked about her, tipsy, and realized that her two companions had left. What a shame.

She walked, in her 'new money' fashion, over to the third entrance to the building.

That was when a voice chimed in her head, with a thick traditional RP British accent: Damnit all, this is far too enigmatical for us, darling.

Astra laughed and knocked on the door three times, politely, regardless. @Edema Rue

Oh, Rivia, she said to her spren, You mustn't jump to conclusions. I can almost taste the gambling from outside. Hope is nowhere from lost for us, dear.

The Change is qghic  qjeghh iuh iqu heg oiqueh hqoigeh , so you'll know soon enough.

And... flip a coin. I choose tails, you flip.

"Deal." The Gambler places down chips for each thing bet, and picks up his hand.

The game moves quickly, and finally they reach the place where bets would normally be placed. "Anything you want to change?" He says.

Tails. Can we please work in the Princess Bride reference?
