They followed.

He led them to a few rooms, not too lavish, Alderic figured they weren't used to rooms that were plush. "Here you are. Food will be sent in fifteen minutes. Have a good night."

Lily sprawled out on a bed and Meron bounced a bit on a chair. Their mother smiled. “Thank you.” Her eyes were still red from seeing Marewill.

Along the horizon in the arena the sun begins to set. It slowly dips below the horizon and the rain has slowed to a stop. The sky is clear as beautiful bright stars come into view and northern lights streak across the darkness. The temperature drops to about 45* F

"Of course, mother of Marewill." Alderic said, nodding and walking away to his room.

Tinker led them to a dry area that was mostly clear of Verdant vines.

"I think this is as good a place to stop as any," he said, gazing at the sky above.

It was beautiful.

And it reminded him of home.

He tried not to think about it.

"R-right, we should try to settle down for the night." Sharp sat down, not sure what to do with himself. "Should we . . . try to make a fire?"

...Patrik sat by a tree, sore. His little vine man came back to him carrying a few suspicion nuts, a strange fruit, and a... writhing mouse. Partik nearly sickened. Why did it have to be mice?

As he looked closer, he saw some other friendly looking berries. He thought one might be a blueberry. He ended the ouse and looked around for some fire wood.

Water.

I need water.

Wasn't there someway of filtering a swamp?

Quelkin walks in to the casino.

A man with blacker than black hair stands behind the counter. “Welcome,” he says, “to The Casino. How may I help you?”

He stands silently for a moment. “Thank you.” It was an earnest gesture. “You’re going to make me very proud, I can already tell.”

Gavin nods once. I need your influence, not your pride. “I-I-I’ll t-try.”

It drops, but not as much, let’s say like 55* F. (Sorry non-Americans. I don’t know celcius)

Patrik hasn’t been into the casino, right?

A voice he doesn’t recognize starts speaking in his ear, almost as if it’s right next to him. But there’s no one there. “One kill,” it says. “One kill, and I’ll get you water and a way to filter more.”

“I know,” he said, “and none of my gold is real.” He winked at her. “But we could play anyway.”

He watched her dice spinning, spinning, spinning…double ones. Not very lucky, was she? Of course, most lucky people didn’t end up here. But she wasn’t dead yet. She’d made it into the casino. And if she made the right deal…he could give her anything she needed.

Astra clicked her tongue carelessly. "I've lost my touch, it seems."

She'd lost so much more, too.
How much had she left of her life?

Of her friends?
Of her casinos?
Of her power?

After it all had collapsed...
How much has she left of herself?

Using her index finger to slide the fake cold across the counter, she indicated for him to roll the dice.

"Go ahead, darling," she began to smile, "Let's see the bankroll."

Fake gold... The stakes were so low, yet so high. She had strolled into this casino with nothing to lose but her life, and no intentions to lose anything. Why had she begun to invest herself, now? Everything warned her against it. But it was in times like these when she had to do something.

"I have one life," Astra started, sipping a replenished drink, "But even if I had a hundred more, I would spend all of them on the life I'm leading now. Regrets and grudges hold us back," she dipped the glass of alcohol back, "I intend to take all opportunity given to me, Corin. Even if that means rolling snake eyes a thousand times. With one stroke of luck, it's all worth it." Her eyes darkened with a bitter edge, but returned to their light, flamboyant glaze after a moment's notice.

Beneath the spores is a sharp silver knife (which doesn’t seem to be affecting them through the glass, for some reason) and a long range water gun that looks like a nerf gun.

I'm gonna assume that Tondon's box has these as well, and that each spore type has its own vial.

5 hours ago, Edema Rue said:

The box is stubborn, very stubborn, but it eventually springs open, revealing vials of multicolored spores.

The vials resemble those used by allomancers, but the contents look like the vine explosives. Making a split second decision and not wanting to drown, Tondon uncorks and shakes the green vial. Vines explode around him and the surrounding pond, wrapping both combatants partially in vines. Tondon somehow manages to cork the now around half full vial without dropping it in the water, then sees the perfectly good knife underneath it. He takes it out, swapping it for the vial, and slashes at both tentacles and vines. The knife cuts through the vines easily, rendering their edges grey, but the octopus, on the other hand...

Quote

I don't know what this thing is, so I don't know what cutting it would do. If it does let go, the following narration proceeds. (Not the best grammar ever, but you know what I mean.)

Tondon stumbles away from the pool to what he thinks is a safe distance, then fills the water gun contraption after a few attempts. He tests it on a spore pile, which blossoms spectacularly. Then, realizing that the area should be both spore and water free, he sits on it, and uses the knife to fashion a strip of jumpsuit sleeve he can use to holster his various weaponry. Then, after filling his green vial back up with spores around him, he sits down to watch the strange images in the sky that appeared, while attempting to fill the box with connection (If it works, he continues to do so).

After the presentation ends, it starts to rain, but his pile of already triggered spores is a relatively safe place to be. Once night falls, if the box is duralumin, he will go look for someone to either make friends with or steal from.

Corin laughed, picking up the dice. They were smooth in his hands, and warm. Well-used. “No regrets…a good way to live, in here.” He made as if to roll the dice, then froze. He reached up and touched his earpiece. For the first time since Astra had seen him, his grin faded fully. Then it snapped back into places.

”Ah,” he said ruefully, “it seems that I’ve forgotten my place, sweet. If you want to gamble, you’ll need to do it with him.” He nods at the man in the corner with a wink. “But if you ever want to make a trade…that’s why I’m here.”

He sets the dice neatly back on the counter. They now show double sixes. “May your luck turn soon, Astra.” He nods deferentially. It’s almost a bow, but not quite.

The octopus doesn’t let go immediately, but it’s wounded. After several more slashes, it drops him, and he manages to stumble away.

As he’s walking, he sees @LightRinger and @Spark of Hope.

The temperatures continue to drop as the night goes on, getting to the edge of freezing levels.

Tondon wouldn't go looking for people unless the box was duralumin (is it?). If they're looking for me, that's fine.
