He has a faint image of a tattoo that he has seemingly tried to burn off on three back of his neck.

Mark groans.

”I’m good, I’m good.” He stumbles to his feet.

”light. I need light.”

She saw it. Just faint, barely there. But it still made her freeze.

His shield formed in the nick of time as a flurry of gunshots hit him, and he saw the peacekeepers fanning out into a semi-circle, trying to get around his shield.

“Rusts.”

16 hours ago, The Stormfather said:

Mark quickly saw his opening when there was a moment, a single moment where the peacekeepers were distracted enough for him to rush towards them.

He knew that if he ran away, there would be bullets flying after him for every step he took. But the chaos, the chaos of the grand melee, that was where he flourished.

He dropped to his knees under a swing of a knife from one peacekeeper, dagger lengthening into a longsword to cleave through a pair of them.

He grabbed a rifle from a fallen peacekeeper and raised it up towards them, firing a few shots before reforming his shield.

Astra glanced back, her arm already sore from skillfully maneuvering her blade across the battlefield in a tight dance to the death. Without her plate, she felt heavier and beaten down, but adrenaline and defiance powered her swiftly forward against and around the peacekeepers. She wouldn't let them, or any one else, chain her down and restrain her spirit. She was a Willshaper, after all.

When Mark charged for attack, she took her cue to dart in another direction and catch them by surprise, slicing limbs and dodging swings. She had forgotten what it was like to fight. She called upon skills she taught herself underground in bar fights or casino squabbles. She forgot what it was to fight against her own death, and breathe in the true worth of life, feeling the bloody dust fill her lungs.

She kept a moment's look at Mark, to ensure his safety. But now, now that she was carried away, when she glanced back Mark seemed depleted and in critical condition. She used transportation to pull herself to him as quick as she could.

"Mark-" she grabbed his shoulder, supporting his trembling body, "Here."

She pressed the flower filled with stormlight to him.

She slowly began to back away from Mark and Astra, and toward Tinker, Sharp, and Dougella.

She pressed the flower filled with stormlight to him.

Mark gasps and takes in the Stormlight, looking up to Astra.

“Thanks.” Mark rises, stormlight puffing from his mouth. The glow begins to fade and his burns and wounds heal. As they fade, he presses the remaining light back into the flower.

”Keep this. You’re more experienced with the Light.” Mark calls in his Sharddagger, looking.

“Alright.” He whispers. “Time for a real fight.”

”Astra, get to that gate and get it open. Use the Light to get there, and cut it open. We need to get out of here before one of us gets hit again. Marewill! Use your speed to steal weapons and explosives. If you can make sure they don’t hit someone with a grenade, then our chances of being killed are lowered significantly.”

@Spark of Hope

“Dougella! Sharp! Whichever of you have breaths at the moment, make some awakened stuff to draw some fire until we can really get going! As long as their not shooting at us, we’re safe.”

@Scars of Hathsin @J. Magi

”Tinker, take one of their guns and give me some cover. You don’t even have to aim if you get the general area. I need them focusing on other people so my Blade can do some real damage. Also, if you happen to be invested, use that as well. I don’t know you very well.” Mark grimaces, seeing the Peacekeepers regrouping. Too many of them.

@The Bookwyrm

”Alright everyone! Tributes! Attack!”

”To death and strife.” He whispers the mantra of the Rusted, quiet, but not quiet enough to stop Marewill and Astra from hearing.

If Marewill heard him, she made no show of it. She just stared at him with wide eyes.

Mark does glance her way and notice her shock, but attributes it to battle shock. There were, in fact, many peacekeeper corpses nearby.

”Marewill! I know that this is bad, but we gotta’ get moving right now!”

She blinked once. Twice. Thrice.

He’s… he’s one of them.

He’s also one of us. A tribute. Just work with him for now. You never need to do it again after.

She turned away from him and did what he’d asked.

Tinker hesitated, then nodded, picking up a sleek rifle. I hope he knows what he's doing.

He thought back to that brief flash of power, that enhancement of his senses. Was that..? Well, even if it had been, there were no metals around. He'd have to keep going as he always had.

***

The sounds of a battle came, muffled, from the other side of the iron gate.

Is that...them? Milay thought, trying not to hope too hard. Had they made it already?

"Alderic!" Falr bellowed. "Can you get this door open?"

“The mark on his neck,” she muttered, “it was on them, too.”

With the cover fire from Tinker, Mark charged in at a group of peacekeepers.

A huge greatsword formed in his hand, and with a single cleave he had gone through two of them. He shortened the blade into a short sword and deftly cut the barrel off of another’s rifle, and kicked them hard before spinning away to quickly engage a pair who were readying dueling canes behind him.Two fell with burned eyes.

his dagger flew through the air, picking off the last of this small group of peacekeepers.

“Alright, let’s end this.”

Tinker watched as a Peacekeeper that had somehow survived Mark's assault suddenly snuck up from behind, in perfect position to shoot him in the back. Tinker dashed forward and threw a Verdant grenade, entrapping him in vines.

"Watch your back, Mark!" he called. "We're not out of this yet!"

He turned back to Marewill.

"Our goal right now is surviving. Worry about the rest later, okay?"

Sharp nodded, reaching to help Dougella up first, and then pulling of his coat.

He put his hands down on the fabric, a little nervous because of his inexperience.

He pushed some of his breaths into the back of the coat, the stones underneath loosing their color so he could do so.

"Um . . . Protect Us." He commanded, hoping that would work.

The fabric rustled, and then stood, using the corners of the coat as 'legs.' It bounded over the some of the peacekeepers near the back and entangled itself in them, keeping them from attacking and wrenching the guns out of their hands.

Sharlin Pulled on the bars, she wasn't very strong because of her age, but she'd practiced enough to be effective.

The bars bent towards her, creaking as they broke their shape. The result was a few gaps some of the smallest members could slide through.

She was on the other side in a flash. "We'll run ahead while you get through!" She waved to Milay, and ran down the last of the tunnel.

Milay blinked. I guess that works.

"Father," she called, "I can get these open the rest of the way." She gestured to one of the Crescent district warriors, who wore iron bracers on her arms. They slipped through to the other side. The feruchemist went down on one knee and held Milay's shoulders from behind as she flared Steel and pushed. The pressure was huge, but with her companion bracing her from behind, she had enough of an anchor to widen the gap so that three or four soldiers could get through at a time.

She collapsed to one knee, gasping. Then, catching her breath, she downed another vial, and turned to follow Sharlin down the tunnel.

Not having needed her muscle, Crocus had stopped tapping and returned to storing her weight. She slipped through the bars easily.

I...I didn't...

He shook his head. Not now. Not while they weren't home free yet. What was he expecting?

He grabbed Marewill's hand, the other still holding the rifle. "Come on," he said. "The safest place for us right now is by Mark. Whether we like it or not."

“Astra! We need that gate open!” Mark shouted.

@Lotus Blossom

He lifts his shield to block a spray of bullets, and falls backs few steps to a fallen peacekeeper, lifting a pistol from the fallen soldier.

He snaps off a few badly aimed shots.Always been bad with pistols. He quickly empties out the gun, not hitting a single shot, and realizes that most of that group were aimed at him.Take the chance, someone. They’re focused on me.

He dropped to one knee, forming a slightly larger shield and inching ever so slowly over to another fallen peacekeeper, snatching a rifle. He summoned two spines on the bottom of the shield and stabbed it into the group for cover.

He peeked for a moment, firing a shot that struck the arm of one of the peacekeepers.

Then he was forced back down behind his shield as more bullets hammered in.

As the peacekeepers reeled from Marewill’s attack, Mark sprinted towards them, shield raised, and once he reached them, he dismissed his Shield and raised is as an ornate longsword.

”I give you one chance to surrender, right now, or else all of you will fall with burnt out eyes.”

Her thick boots clunked on the stone of the tunnel,  the sounds of the fight in front of them grew louder. They were almost there.

-----------

Sharp slashed his way through several peacemakers, trying to stay close to the group. Fighting with nothing but a small knife was difficult, but he'd been trained to handle it.

Assuming that the group is being attacked, Connor wakes up and looks around for someone to fight.
