Connor notices Kresh’s leaving and swears at him, before saying to Sharp “Leave me here with Krin, follow Kresh, but stay out of sight. Krin will be safe, he can heal from the knife wounds, and he can slip out of the grasp of whatever has a hold on my ankle, so don’t worry about him.” Connor then stops pulling on the lasso for a second, then yanks it as hard as he can, attempting to pull Tondon into the water.

Astra grinned, taking the challenge. She swirled the drink in her glass for a moment before downing the rest, expressing a subtle fire-filled humor in her eyes as she set it down calmly. "Not at all, darling. You misunderstood me."

She looked down at the counter with a light laugh before tilting her head up again, at Corin. "I simply prefer to know how much more I need to drink."

It was all too familiar to her.

As if she was replaying her life.

But in the hunger games.

With higher stakes.

Hadn't she loved higher stakes?

Corin grinned dangerously wide. It wasn’t a good thing to care. Caring got him here. Caring would keep him from getting out. But the bargain, the deal, the dancing of words…how could he resist? Why should he resist? And when she died, it would be no great loss…

“But of course,” he murmured. Then he paused. “Can I do anything for you? That is, after all, why I’m here…”

Awesome.

Suddenly, the swamp exploded with life. The life of color. This is power. Patrik hadn't even realized what he'd been missing. The world was lit by hundreds of greens and drowns. Patrik grabbed some vines and began tying them together. making a strange figure with too many limbs, he touched it. "Bring me food."

He need water. Was there a way to filter the swamp around him?

His grin. It was like Sawyin's. The smile of someone who has seen the world, has fallen to it's horrors, and yet continues to persist against the terrors of the entire world working against them, with a smile. Someone who continues to fight for their own self expression with humor. Someone who is wise, but not serious, and someone who can see for themselves the importance of enjoying this suffocating life whenever possible. With a drink, a laugh, a friend... No matter. Those who are mistreated by the world cannot afford to have morals. He was someone who had truly uncovered the secret of leading a free life, in chains. Someone who continues to fight for their own freedom through the ability to grin. That is the most powerful smile of all. That is the most dangerous person of all. Most captivating.

There were few people left in this world like her or Corin.
Very few.

Astra tapped her fingers on the bar casually, but temptingly.

"You can do many things for me, Corin,"  she shook her hair out gently and smiled up at him playfully, letting that moment last before continuing, "But would you do for a... game, perhaps?"

She swirled the empty glass, with a look of nostalgia.

"I do miss the allure of the coins," she said in a low voice through her smile.

Was it real nostalgia for the times before the games? Her times owning casinos in the black market? Her times of gambling, and risk? Or was it simply mockery of such a feeling? Could Astra even tell, herself?

And yet something about Corin drew her in.

The casinos. The lights. The bars. The auctions.

He wasn't afraid to be himself. He didn't smile because he was innocent or naive. But he didn't keep a straight face after seeing the trauma waiting in this life life, either. No. He had been mistreated by the world, and smiled anyway. That was true freedom.

If only the world had seen what Corin and I have seen.

If only the world had known how to smile.

If only.

Corin opened his palm, and in the center was a gleaming golden coin. He flicked it into the air and caught it. When he opened his hand, the gold had tarnished and dulled. Somehow, that made it all the more beautiful.

”I’ve waiting a long time for a game worth playing,” he said, his eyes never leaving hers.

Caught, he decided, but not captive. Was there anything more beautiful than the shackled dancer who refused to stop spinning?

He rolled the coin through his fingers, taking a long, comfortable breath. The tables were scratched in just the right places. The drink was just watered down enough to keep the richest customers out. It was how it always had been, and always would be. And to think, they thought this would hurt. The gamemakers were sure that turning his home to his prison would shatter him. A pity, then, that he’d broken long ago.

A double pity that he still spun wildly.

And if this dancer needed a partner, who was he to let her flounder?

It refused to let him go, slowly tightening its grip on him.

Tondon keeps hitting it with the box as the tentacle starts squeezing hard enough to hurt. Then, as it continues to ignore him (after all, he’s trying to hit it with his non-dominant hand), he tries to open the box, hoping something in there, like an iron vial or a weapon, might help him.

"I doubt it would protect you from these spores." Kresh replies, gesturing to the crimson spores next to him.

After resting up for a while Quelkin decides to down one of the vials. A bitter taste coats the back of his throat as he forces the liquid down. He coughs a few times and takes a few deep breaths to keep it down. He felt no stores of pewter appear. "Storms I got the wrong metal... Well Nacho lets get going we're going to need some pewter from from the casino." He starts walking in the general direction of the Casino, avoiding puddles and piles of spores. Quelkin glanced up at one point to see that Nacho had made his legs disappear and had created sandlings with wings that were flying towards him. He would cut them with his wicked katanas and then they would reappear about a foot away from him then continue flying towards him. Quelkin stops walking for a second, "What are you doi... nevermind" he says as he shakes his head and continue walking to the center clearing.

“Deal.” Connor said, before wading back to the box and looking for a way to open it

Astra's eyes sparkled with a smile as he flipped the gold coin. Fool's gold...

Sometimes, it was alright to be foolish. Sometimes, it was the wisest decision.

"I'm no game, Corin," she leaned in on the counter, her voice almost a whisper "Don't mistake me for one."

You ought to learn self-control... Rivia scolded.
Why have self-control in a world that loves controlling you?

She had nothing left to lose, but her life. So nothing would stop her from enjoying it while it lasted.
And if the pain was worse later on, then let her be pained, if only a moment's laughter rang true.
She couldn't let herself go with Corin. It was disrespectful to herself. It was disrespectful to Sawyin. But something about him made her miss the way things were. Something about him made her wish nothing more than to let herself go, while she still had something of herself to hold onto. This moment wouldn't last forever. This life wouldn't last forever. But how much was she willing to risk in the moment? Everything.

Astra took the two dice in her hands and spun them out, watching calmly from her position on the counter as they rolled across the bar.

Quelkin almost collapses as he falls against a nearby tree. He relieves himself of his last meal, or whatever you could call a few bites of food supply, as a bout of nausea hits him. He has to take deep breaths for a few minutes and then continues on with a strong headache pulsing inside of his head.

Sharp rolled his eyes, but didn't manage to hide his smile--it was a typical Krin joke.

@Edema Rue

Sharp let go of Connor so he could move to the box, but stayed near in case something happened. He put his hand on the knife in his pocket.
