The Redspine screamed, an eerily human sound, as half of the Crimson spikes on its back went a dull grey. It thrashed back and forth, biting at the male, before stepping back carefully. "You... Are much stronger than I thought. The Redspine will feed, but for now... You are spared."

It began trudging away through the snow, one half of its body a bright red, the other colorless. A deer bounded past, and in an instant, the Redspine had impaled it with one of its remaining spines. It gruesomely devoured the front half, but left the back. It pushed it a little in the direction of the two. "A parting gift. We shall meet again." It stopped, and something that resembled a smile crossed its draconic face. "Tinker."

The Redspine walked away.

She breathed heavily as it left. She glanced at the slashed tent and the backpack, which had been damaged but not destroyed. Slowly she stood and put it on.

”We should move. That was a lot of noise… chances are, it drew a lot of attention.”

I regret every decision I’ve ever made that has led me to this point.

KuLaam suddenly glanced up, at the one thing that everyone ignored. He knew what he needed to do. He sprinted into the clearing and grabbed Quelkin's corpse hauling him off back into the forest. He would need a few hours before he was ready.

@Dragonheir @RoyalBeeMage @The Stormfather (also anyone else who is in the clearing)

She looked down at it and sighed. “Okay. I’m just saying we shouldn’t stay here for too long.”

That thing didn’t even benefit from killing the deer. Just like-

She started storing some of her speed and made her way over to the deer. “What were you thinking about taking?”

"Just some of the meat," he said. "We can cook it later, or make jerky."

“We’d have to drain the blood first. We could probably use the antlers or hooves as well.”

The Redspine ate the front part.

"Yeah...though that monster already started the process for us." He looked at the bloody mess that had replaced the deer's middle.

After the blood had drained, Tinker took a dozen or so large pieces of meat from the deer's haunches, carefully avoiding the area the Redspine had bit. He wrapped the chunks in some of his spare cloth.

My jumpsuit is in tatters at this point...

"Here," he said, handing them to Marewill. "We can put them in the pack. I don't want to spend any more time getting more...we should salvage what we can from the camp and get out of here.

"I want to try to trade that spike for something at the casino."

“I… thought you wanted to avoid the casino.”

"Well, yeah. That's because the man inside wanted me to kill people in order to get stuff. But...that spike is valuable, and we might be able to trade it for something. A true spore kit for me. New supplies, new clothes."

The backpack suddenly felt a lot heavier as she remembered the first deal she made with Corin. If he wanted to go to the casino, what would happen to her if she stopped him?

”Alright.” It would have been hard for Tinker to notice, but her voice was tight.

"If we don't want to risk both our lives, I could also just go alone," Tinker said as he salvaged the sleeping bag and rolled it up.

That tent's a lost cause...

"We'd find a new place to hide near the casino, I duck in and out, then we leave again."

“Yeah. Like, in foliage or a snowdrift or something.”

Tinker nodded, then kicked dirt over the fire.

"Should we go?"

No. We shouldn’t. Even apart from my own curiosity about the spike. There’s too many people over there, it’s a big risk. It’s a bad idea to go over there.

She nodded. “Let’s.”

Tinker led Marewill to a small snowy tree-covered hill near the Casino and crouched among the foliage.

"I can take the spike," he said, holding out his hand.

She hesitated for a moment - or was that her storing speed? - and handed over the jar.

Tinker gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll be in and out. And I've got Crimson. Don't worry."

Yeah, Tinker, stop worrying.

He made a dash for the Casino and ducked into the nearest door.

She smiled back and nodded.

That’s not what I’m worried about at all…
