Always a minor Shardworld?

Jingpoo

Question

Is there such a thing as a former major shardworld?

As far as my understanding goes, A major shardworld is a planet with an active shard or a splintered shard or two.  While a minor is one like Threnody where there is no shardic influence just the planets "natural" magic.

Could a planet have had a shard on it at some point in time, but then it left to go and cause destruction (or create life) elsewhere?

QUESTION

Is the fact that Odium can't leave Roshar a direct result of the Oathpact, or something else?

BRANDON SANDERSON

Not a direct result of the Oathpact, but the Oathpact was part of it

and maybe this

QUESTION ()

How many parties were there to the original Oathpact?

BRANDON SANDERSON

The Heralds and Honor. They thought that by walking away from their oaths, that it would break the Oathpact. They're going to find out that it's not quite as broken as they had previously thought (meaning the Heralds).

We know Odium has moved between shardworlds before. So, I would say it's possible. But I don't think we've ever seen one.

Odium makes a point to not exert influence on Shardworlds, though. On Sel, he explicitly doesn't leave behind any Splinters or any form of his influence beyond Splintering Aona and Skai.

The only world that we know he's exerted his influence on is Roshar, and he's been imprisoned in the Greater Roshar system for quite a long time. Odium's goal is to explicitly become the most powerful individual in the Cosmere (Harmony's thrown a wrench in that). Putting his own Investiture on a Shardworld means breaking down his own power. This, surprisingly, has some interesting implications (speculation time!).

I suspect that Honor and Cultivation laid a trap for Odium in the Greater Roshar system. Initially, this involved the Heralds, Dawnsingers and Dawnshards. Odium counteracts with his Unmade, which leads to an escalation (by the creation of the Knights Radiant on the part of Honor and Cultivation and the creation of the Thunderclasts and Voidspren on Odium's part). The three of them are stuck in a stalemate, which changes when either Honor is Splintered or when the Oathpact is weakened.

Only problem with that is that it requires that the Oathpact was made with the goal of trapping Odium. However, we know that it isn't the case, and that the trapping of Odium was just a side-effect of the overall Oathpact. In any case, back on track.

Pretty sure it's possible for a shard to reclaim the power it has been invested into a planet so that the shard is able to leave the vicinity of the planet. Whether this would have any lasting effects on the planet or not, and/or cause the planet to be treated as a minor shardworld moving forward is unknown, as we haven't seen anything of the like yet.

If we assume that the Vorin's lore is at least partially true. The mankind comes to Roshar from another planet with their gods..this mean that whaterver they was before, H&C (or at least one of them) was in their previous home and then They de-invested from the Halls to came to Roshar.

Some speculations seem to point to Breize or Ashlyn as Tranquille Halls... in the second case, Ashlyn is now a minor Shardworld.

That first one really doesn't imply that the Oathpact wasn't aimed at countering Odium, just that it wasn't the thing that directly achieved trapping him. It could still have been formed with trapping him being one of its aims.
