So they began the process of deciding who should win the case in the Author-only communication networks. Hacob's Author, the one known as Cacophony, presented a stellar case of the fact that the lawyer didn't ever point it out, in the original trial or the appeals. And Hacob's name was being defamed as they were intentionally calling him the wrong thing. As such, he convicted both parties. Hacob was guilty of offering aid to an enemy of the Ghanderflaffles as well as the separate crime of Narrating the Courts, while the General was guilty of intentionally misspelling Hacob's name. As a side note, he also recommended that the Supreme Ghanderflaffle Court be restructured to combat pro-Ghanderflaffle bias.

He also pointed out that it could not be proved he had Narrated a Court, so he appealed it to the Court of the Mods, where it would probably never see the light of day. They had a lot of work on their plates. He also wanted payment from the General for defaming him. Nameless believed that one defeat in battle would be payment enough for her crimes and asked Cacophany if he concurred. For Hacob's sentencing, he offered a choice: Either community service (ten years of service in the Ghanderflaffle army, under the direct authority of the General) or permanent loss of all Narratorial capabilities.

Considering the evidence collected: 3 hours ago, Being of Cacophony said: Hacob was a little offended that they were unable to spell his name right, but he didn't show it. He did, however, lend his support to the Doug-waffle without anyone knowing about it. It seemed to him that the matter was proven. He was willing to lower the sentence to one year, but having Platypus supervise the service was not acceptable. He proposed this revised sentence: Hacob would have one year of community service under the General, during which time he would be able to address any concerns about the General's orders to the general population of Authors, who would be able to override with any order the General made so long as a majority (of a minimum size of two out of three Authors) agreed that it was unfair. Also, he'd get one day of leave every month.

That way the General and the Ghanderflaffles still had compensation (even though no crime was committed) and Hacob wouldn't have to report to a person who could have a grudge against him.

Nameless rejected this solution, as the story impact from it wasn't positive enough. Instead, he proposed that the General be forbidden to exact revenge on Hacob because of harsh feelings towards him due to past squabbles, on penalty of releasing Hacob from his sentence.
