Free Way of Kings Ebook May 4th, Call to Adventure Interview and Art (Updated)

Tor.com's eBook Club is giving away The Way of Kings, the first Stormlight Archive book, on May 4th. It's super easy, all you need to do is sign up for Tor.com's eBook Club mailing list and you'll receive it on May 4th. Nice! (Update: turns out, this was a very popular event and Tor's site crashed for a bit, so they are extending the deal for another day through May 5th. The site seems to be doing better now.) It's only available for US and Canada (since Tor only has rights to distribute it there).

Cosmere.es Interview with Brotherwise Games on Call to Adventure: Stormlight

Also this week, the wonderful Spanish fansite for the cosmere, cosmere.es, did an interview with one of the founders of Brotherwise Games on creating the Call to Adventure: Stormlight board game. You can check it out here:

I bring this up, because there is some phenomenal card art that they unveiled. You can check out the full gallery here. Brotherwise Games got all sorts of incredible artists in the community and are very proud of their card art, and they should be! For example, check out this Hoid:

Art by Ari Ibarra

Check out this image of the Honorblades left behind in the prelude of Stormlight Archive:

Art by Antti Hakosaari

SO COOL. That image is especially cool because Brotherwise Games worked with Isaac Stewart at Dragonsteel to make these canonically accurate Honorblades. You can see the Radiant order glyphs on each of them (as well as Surge glyphs on some).

In case you'd like a labeled one saying which Herald's Honorblades these are:

Cool! What do you think of all the art?

Note that the ebook for tWoK is only available to people living in the USA, Canada (minus Quebec) and the District of Colombia. I was a bit disappointed that I wouldn't be able to receive a copy, but at least I still have my paperback. :)

Do we know if the artwork of the honorblades counts as canon at all?

Do we know if the ebook is WoK Prime, or just WoK? I vaguely remember something about the WoK Prime ebook maybe not being part of the leather-bound WoK kickstarter. Just curious.

The Honorblades aren't supposed to have gemstones in them.

Not what I had in mind when I read Nale's Honorblade had two slits

Love the various cosmere symbols surrounding Hoid in the art. Just hidden enough to make you look, but obvious to anyone looking (always another secret, right?)

I've added this to the article. I suspect that's because Tor only has rights to distribute in NA, and also possibly rules about giveaways and lotteries.

My impression is that they worked with Isaac to make them canonical.

Am I the only one who finds Battar's blade to be suspiciously close to how Oathbringer is described?

It's very possible that's just in-world identification for the Heralds, for the Desolation troops.

Uh guys? Does anybody know about the error I was talking about earlier? I kinda don't want to miss out on this, and a friend of mine who hasn't read the series is having the same trouble.

It gave me an error multiple times. I just tried over and over. It worked ... eventually.

Apparently this was a very popular event so they are extending the deal for another day while they sort out technical details. It seems to be doing better now:

@aneonfoxtribute The issue was probably related to a traffic to the site. I had to try a couple times to get mine to go through. Sorry if you didn't get it.

If Taln had placed his Honorblade (provided that he didn't die...), then the circle would be complete, and we would have two Shattered Plains...

I got it, as did my friend. The issue on my side was my using a phone, since the moment I tried it on desktop it worked. I don't know what was up with my friend though. He got the same error despite being on a computer from the start.. I ended up redeeming it for him on my computer.

Thanks! Reason I asked is the same as ginger below:

My thoughts exactly! We can now theorize as to the other dead shardblades we have seen, what orders they potentially belong to!
