Opinion of the day #33: Sanderson is... kinda overrated. Yeah, he's great at worldbuilding, magic systems, and his characters are great, but everything else is just okay. His prose is, to me, bland, and every book follows the same format of lots of build-up BIG CLIMAX resolution. I understand that that's kind of the standard for writing, but it's the exact same thing every single time. In SA, for example, there's not four of little climaxes building up to an enormous climax in book 5, but four big climaxes that I think will dilute the impact of the end of book 5. In addition, his books tend to be meandering and a bit convoluted to the point that sometimes when I think that I've cracked a puzzle, I haven't even when I should have. "There's always another secret," yeah but I want to know everything about a world, and repeatedly throwing mystery boxes inside mystery boxes in my face gets frustrating.
All of that is not to say that Sanderson is a terrible writer. It's just that there are better writers. The reasons above are also why I don't read one Sanderson book after the other until I'm done with them.
(Don't kill me please I need to finish my book)
