  1. She felt him wince and let go quickly, dropping her hands to her sides where they clenched into tight fists.
  2. "Thank you." Rex whispered, unaware of the death grip she had on Daniel's hand.
  3. She nodded, but didn't look up.
  4. Rex licked her suddenly dry lips. "I... umm... I would never want to hurt him." She said, looking down.
  5. Rex blushed slightly, but was still smiling. "Alright, Mr. Johnson." She said quietly.
  6. I wrote a poem the other night :)

    Spoiler

    Crippling Depression

    I stare at the ceiling,
    Unmoving.
    My mind
    Feels numb.
    I don’t even
    Blink my eyes.

    My body tingles,
    My hands shake,
    I’m cold all over.
    But the real
    Chill is
    Inside.

    I feel frozen in place,
    Stuck in a
    Cold, mental
    Mud.

    My eyes water and a
    Single tear
    Rolls
    Down my
    Cheek.

    I can’t even move to
    Wipe it away.
    It feels warm,
    Then cold,
    Traveling down,
    To drip into my
    Ear.

    I blink once
    And it brings more
    Tears.

    They sting my eyes
    As they fall.
    I am being consumed
    By this empty feeling.

    By the immense loneliness
    That finds me
    So often these days.

    I can’t get warm.
    I can hardly
    Move my chest
    Up and
    Down
    To breathe.

    The emptiness
    Is joined by
    The massive
    Weight
    Of self hatred.

    I can feel my
    Heart
    Breaking,
    Even as it
    Beats.

    My eyes go
    Unfocused,
    Lights blurry.

    The world is softer
    That way,
    Everything looks
    Like clouds.

    Clouds that
    I can sink into,
    Sink into
    Unmoving,
    Wrapped in the
    Cold misty
    Blanket.

    I’m shaking harder now,
    I can hardly feel it.
    I can’t see it.
    I try to
    Wiggle my
    Fingers,
    But it’s too hard.

    I am faintly aware
    Of a sensation
    Of drifting.

    Have I joined the
    Clouds?
Is that what I am now?
    Cold and damp,
    Floating away,
    To some other
    Place?

    Twenty-three days

    I whisper in my mind,
    It’s too long.
    I can’t
    Wait that
    Long.

    I’m drifting.

  7. "I hope it is, Sir." She said.
  8. Rex reached for his hand, taking it in hers and smoothing the skin over it with her thumb. "I must say, I love your son very much."
  9. "He's done more than his fair share of taking care of me, too." She said, smiling fondly at Daniel.
  10. "I... Okay..." She forced her smile to come back. "Thank you for being so kind to me."
  11. "I-Is it me?" She asked, worried. "I can leave..."
  12. Rex smiled, glad that Daniel was happy. "You have a beautiful home." She said, directed at Daniel's mother.
  13. "Oh, I'm sure they're nice while they're arguing too!" She laughed, a genuine laugh, not forced.
  14. Rex smiled back at him. "You have such nice children." She said quietly, but kindly. "They are so sweet and kind."
  15. She leaned into him. "Okay, I trust you." She whispered back.
  16. Rex unconsciously let her shoulders relax, leaning her head against Daniel's shoulder.
  17. She flinched, but recovered quickly. "You're welcome."
  18. She sighed. I don't know... it's just... I don't know how to act? What if everything goes wrong?" He could probably sense her worry quite easily.
  19. She stared at Jimmy, fear clouding her mind. Jump! She stepped off the cushion and onto the floor, making it look like an accident.
